Former Army Captain joins Trio as ACLS & PALS Leader

ACLS & PALS certifications are in-depth, rigorous curriculum designed to prepare students to function as healthcare providers within their advanced scopes of practice as part of a team during a resuscitation attempt. Delivery of these courses requires a great deal of preparation, insight, and experience with these critical life support skills.  This requires a unique leader with a unique set of skills.

Sometimes leadership is part of an individual’s DNA – always serving others, leading by example, and improving things around them. Thankfully, our Training Center has welcomed a new leader like this to our team.

Trio is excited to announce the addition of Mr. Wes Porter to our team as the new ACLS + PALS Programs Leaders replacing the previous coordinator who transitioned off the team earlier in 2020.

Wes comes to us with a diversified background of service coupled with a passion for serving others. A 2008 graduate of Birmingham Southern College, Wes earned a BS in Mathematics and played Division 1 soccer. He served our country as an Captain in the United States Army 20th Special Forces Group as a Senior Communications Officer and is Airborne Qualified. Wes spent several tours oversees in combat deployment.

Outside of his work with Trio, Wes is a Firefighter/Paramedic with Vestavia Hills Fire Department on C shift. Ever since his youth when he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, Wes has demonstrated his commitment to serving others. He continues that service in this new role coordinating our ACLS + PALS Programs at Trio.

Under Wes’ leadership, our objectives are to:

  • Continue to deliver our ACLS & PALS instructor and provider courses and ensure 100% AHA compliance with quality assurance and curriculum standards
  • Assist our instructors in growing their ACLS + PALS courses
  • Attract new ACLS & PALS instructors locally and nationwide

Wes and his wife reside in Vestavia along with their children. They are active members of the Church at Brook Hills.
